A British court on Tuesday decided to suspend Julian Assange’s extradition to the United States, demanding additional guarantees from American authorities that the WikiLeaks founder would not be sentenced to death if extradited.
The London High Court judges also ruled that if the above guarantees are not provided by April 16 or are found unsatisfactory, the WikiLeaks founder will be able to appeal the extradition.
Assange, 52, has been fighting for 13 years to avoid extradition to the United States, which intends to try him for 18 crimes related to the publication of thousands of American military and diplomatic documents on the WikiLeaks website.
