Georgia will fulfill all obligations to obtain EU candidate status, but Georgia’s actions alone are not enough for this, Kakha Kaladze, secretary general of the ruling Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia party, said on January 31, according to reports Novosti-Georgia.
“What decision will be made does not depend on us, I do not rule out that they make a political decision again and do not grant us status”Kaladze said.
The Secretary General of Dreams noted that despite the fact that Georgia was “closer” to fulfilling all the conditions for candidate status than Moldova and Ukraine, it did not receive it, but it did, which was a purely political decision. However, all conditions will be met.
There are difficulties in the implementation of certain conditions, such as the reduction of polarization, but this process is beyond the control of the Georgian authorities, since these sentiments are fed from outside the country, in particular from the EU.
“All these twelve points will be fulfilled. One of the directions of these 12 points is to overcome polarization. It is obvious that this cannot happen unilaterally, it is impossible. We talk a lot about it. However, other recommendations will be carefully implemented.” Kaladze said.
