Interrogated, tortured and detained: What is known about the suspects in the Moscow shooting

Russia’s Investigative Committee says it has evidence that Tajik militants accused of killing at least 143 people at a concert hall outside Moscow last week are linked to Ukrainian nationalists, a report says. Reuters. Ukraine denies any involvement, and the US says Daesh, which claimed responsibility for the attack, bears sole responsibility.

SIDEKRAMI RACHABALIZOD – suspected of shooting

Saidakrami Rachabalizoda, 30, is a citizen of Tajikistan, as are three other suspects in the shooting. He appears to have lived in Russia for many years: In 2018, he was fined 2,500 rubles ($27) for violating immigration rules, according to a court database.

After his arrest, several videos were published by the Gray Zone Telegram channel, close to the Wagner mercenary group, where Rachabalisoda was subjected to brutal treatment. In one of the videos, he was kicked and kicked with machine gun butts. In another incident, a man in camouflage uniform cut off part of his right ear and stuffed it into Saidakrami’s mouth.

On March 24, Rachabalisoda appeared in court with a bandage on his right ear and bruises and blood on his face. Asked about video and photographic evidence that he and other suspects were tortured, the Kremlin declined to comment.

MUHAMMADSOBIR FAYZOV – suspected of shooting

19-year-old Muhammadsobir Fayzov is the youngest of those detained. Before the attack, he worked as a hairdresser in a city northeast of Moscow, Russia.

A Reuters It is reported that after Fayzov’s arrest, several Telegram channels published a video showing him being interrogated in a hospital bed. In photographs circulating on the Internet, he is missing an eye.

On March 24, he was brought to court in a wheelchair, with his head thrown back and his eyes closed, apparently not paying attention to what was happening around him.

DALERJON MIRZOYEV – suspected of shooting

Mirzoev is 32 years old and has four children. He was prosecuted in 2011 for violating Russian immigration rules, according to court records reviewed by Reuters. Published air travel records show that he occasionally flew from Moscow to Tajikistan and vice versa.

A video posted on social networks shows Mirzoev answering questions through an interpreter. He said that he lived in a hostel with another man, Muhamad, and that 10-12 days ago they bought a car “for work” from a certain Abdullo. Photos taken in the courtroom showed cuts and bruises on his face.

SHAMSIDIN FARIDUNI – suspected of shooting

25-year-old Shamsidin Fariduni said in an interrogation published on video that he arrived from Turkey on March 4. At the end of February, they published photographs of Istanbul on social networks.

In a video recorded after his arrest, he said he “shot people” at Crocus Town Hall “for money” after being offered 500,000 rubles ($5,400).

Later, the Telegram channel “Grey Zone” published a photograph in which Fariduni was being tortured with electric shock to the genitals, lying on the floor, with his pants rolled up to his knees and someone on top of his legs. When he appeared in court on March 24, he had severe swelling on the left side of his face.

The Federal Security Service (FSB) said it had detained 11 people in connection with the attack, which was claimed by the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group. Four of those detained are suspected of shooting.
