The United States intends to provide military assistance to Ukraine in the amount of $2.2 billion, including the supply of ammunition, weapons, and long-range missiles. Reuters published material about this on January 31, citing high-ranking officials.
The material reports that part of the supply in the amount of $1.725 billion will be financed from the Ukrainian Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) fund. This allows the Biden administration to source weapons not from existing US weapons stocks, but from companies in the US military-industrial complex.
“USAI funds will be used to purchase a new weapon, the Boeing Co (BA.N.) Ground Small Diameter Bomb (GLSDB), with a range of 94 miles (150 km). The United States rejected Ukraine’s requests for an ATACMS missile with a range of 185 miles (297 km).”write the agency
Recall that in the United States for the first time talks about the supply of long-range missiles to Ukraine began in November 2022. Then the possible delivery of such funds for the spring of 2023 was announced.
