The Registry and Notary Union considered this Friday that the new Minister of Justice must “definitely pay attention to the fundamental role” of the registry sector, calling for an “urgent” solution to “serious structural problems”.
“We look forward with great anticipation to the appointment of Rita Judice as Minister of Justice, from whom we expect diligent and effective action to address the serious problems that currently exist in the documentation sector,” the union said in a statement sent to Lusa.
Regarding the appointment of lawyer Rita Judice as Minister of Justice, the Union of Registrar and Notary Workers (STRN) states that this new political cycle “cannot be new in name only, it must be clearly marked by new political options that will solve, once and for all, the problems justice, especially those that seriously impact the documentation sector.”
According to NTRN, the documentation sector is an integral part of the justice system and plays a “very important role”, but was “disdained by the previous Minister of Justice”.
“The actions of the new Minister of Justice must necessarily take into account the fundamental role that the documentation sector plays in the justice system and urgently address the serious structural problems that everyday reality tries to demonstrate, namely the huge shortage of registrars and registrars,” the union emphasizes in a statement signed by President Armenio Maximino.
STRN points out that we cannot continue to “watch the bankruptcy of the state itself, which occurs when registry offices are closed due to a shortage of register keepers and registry office employees, which increases inequality and does not contribute to territorial cohesion.”
The union argues that the new justice minister’s actions should be guided by “the outcome of the debate about what type of justice the country is meant for” and “the existence of strategic planning for the next decade, with appropriate identification of the investments that must be made over multi-year cycles to provide judicial services, namely Civil registry offices, material and human resources capable of responding to the needs of citizens and companies.”
Lawyer Rita Alarcão Judice, daughter of the former President of the Bar and former Social Democratic leader of the Lisbon PSD district José Miguel Judice, will become the new Minister of Justice of the government led by Luis Montenegro, a former partner of the PLMJ lawyers from 2013 to 2023.
Prime Minister-designate Luis Montenegro and the ministers of the XXIV Constitutional Government will take office on Tuesday, and the secretaries of state two days later, with debates on the government program scheduled for April 11 and 12.
