The German Interior Ministry will include questions about Jews in the German citizenship test, Spiegel magazine reported on March 30.
It should be noted that this initiative of the department arose due to the sharp increase in cases of anti-Semitism in Germany after October 7, 2023. In addition, former immigrants who are currently citizens of Germany are most often behind the attacks. Therefore, this phenomenon is called “imported antisemitism.”
When obtaining German citizenship, the applicant must answer the following questions:
—What is the name of the Jewish house of prayer?
—When was the State of Israel created?
—Why does Germany have a special responsibility for the existence of the State of Israel?
—How are they punished for denying the Holocaust in Germany?
Special courses will help each migrant prepare to answer these questions.
However, there are also criticisms of this initiative of the Ministry of the Interior. They believe that immigrants who answer questions correctly may remain unconvinced of their opinions.
The leadership of the Ministry of the Interior considers that this is the correct measure. Thus, the head of the Ministry of the Interior, Nancy Feser, stated that the German passport cannot be obtained by anyone who “does not share our values”.
“We have drawn a very clear red line here. “Anti-Semitism, racism and other forms of disrespect towards a person exclude citizenship.”said Feather.
