A man in Tasmania, Australia, was jailed for at least 10 months after police found hundreds of indecent files of children on his computer, including content created with artificial intelligence, Guardian Australia reported on March 30.
On March 26, the Tasmanian Supreme Court sentenced the 48-year-old Gravelly Beach man to two years in prison with a 10-month non-parole period. In May, police raided his home and found hundreds of files on his computer depicting indecent acts with children.
Much of the information was obtained using artificial intelligence, marking the first time police have discovered and seized such AI-generated material in Tasmania, the Australian Federal Police said on Saturday.
The raids came after multiple reports from the US National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that an Australian man was downloading indecent material involving children from a website and social media sites.
The man pleaded guilty to possession of obscene material involving children obtained through a telecommunications service and using a telecommunications service to access such material in October.
