The so-called High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Christian Schmidt, speaking to British lawmakers, seemed like a man under great pressure who was constantly trying to protect himself, says Neven Angelic, a professor of international relations at London’s Regent’s University. February 1 reports the N1 news agency.
Bosnia and Herzegovina was mentioned in the British Parliament for two days. According to the professor, this is a common procedure in the British Parliament. Since the beginning of the Ukraine crisis, surveillance has intensified in the Western Balkans, especially in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Angelic also noted that the confrontation between the West and Russia is of a fundamental nature and the West is unanimous on this. Another thing is what happened in the 90s in the Balkans, where Russia has no direct influence. She mainly uses the Belgrade regime and also the Banja Luka regime to distract the West and have more space in Ukraine.
Regarding the question of the need for a supreme representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina at this stage, the professor considers it necessary, since the internal political elites cannot or do not want, due to their personal interests, to carry the country forward. But at the same time, he pointed out that the current high representative clearly cannot carry out this job.
“I have the impression that (Christian Schmidt) is under a lot of pressure. He somehow tried to defend himself, he realized that he was being attacked. He refused to answer some questions. If I was on the panel and he was talking about his job (like that), he wouldn’t give him the job.”Angelic pointed out.
