Iranian Majid Nouri, son of Hamid Nouri, sentenced to life imprisonment by Sweden, was released by the Swedish authorities on March 31, IRNA reports.
Majid Nouri was arrested by the Swedish police. His release was announced by the Iranian embassy in Sweden, which, together with the Iranian Foreign Ministry, actively facilitated the release process.
Recall that Hamid Nouri was arrested upon arrival at Stockholm airport in November 2019 and immediately taken into custody. He was accused of participating in the execution and torture of members of the extremist organization Iranian People’s Mujahideen Organization (recognized as terrorist in Iran) in 1988.
On December 19, 2023, the Court of Appeal of the Swedish district of Svea confirmed the life sentence imposed on Hamid Nouri in 2022.
Iran has repeatedly called Nuri’s persecution a political persecution.
