The Marder infantry fighting vehicle, captured in the Avdeevsky direction by the Russian military, was handed over by Russian soldiers to the small repair unit of the Center group of troops. On April 1, the press service of the Russian Defense Ministry published a video of the captured equipment.
According to representatives of the Ministry of Defense, the evacuation of the NATO infantry fighting vehicle took place in two stages.
“Firstly, an engineering reconnaissance of the evacuation area was carried out to ensure the safety of personnel and the equipment used. The second stage was an operation to evacuate the combat vehicle, which was taken to a repair unit, where military personnel carried out subsequent repairs.””the department clarified.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Defense, Russian specialists replaced the broken fuel pipe, cooling system and fuel pumps with an infantry fighting vehicle.
As a result, as you can see in the video, the car is fully operational.
Note that the Marder (Marten) infantry fighting vehicle was developed in Germany in the late 60s of the last century. The German company Rheinmetall manufactured it between 1969 and 1975. In total, about 2,000 combat vehicles were built.
The weight of the Marder infantry fighting vehicle is more than 30 tons. It can accommodate three crew members and up to seven landing personnel. The vehicle is armed with a 20mm RH 202 autocannon and a 7.62mm MG3 coaxial machine gun.
At the time of its adoption, the Marder BMP surpassed all known vehicles of this class in terms of protection and had a high speed of movement. However, Russian military experts noted its poor maneuverability due to the fact that it does not have lugs, while it does have rubber cushions. This type of combat vehicle is only suitable for driving on hard terrain.
