The Standing Committee of the Central Youth Union also posthumously awarded Major Duy the “Brave Youth” badge.
Recall that the farewell ceremony and tribute to Major Tran Ngoc Duy took place on the morning of February 1 at the funeral home of Yen Bai Provincial General Hospital. Pilot Duy’s funeral will take place on February 2 at the Thai Nguyen Province Martyrs’ Cemetery.
On the afternoon of January 31, an Su-22 plane from the 921st Airborne Regiment, flown by pilot Tran Ngoc Duy, crashed while landing at Yen Bai Airport. “During the landing approach, the Su-22 crashed, the pilot was ordered to bail out, but tried to save the plane. Reading the eulogy, Colonel Duong Quoc Thinh, political commissar of the 921st Air Force Regiment, stressed that Maj. Tran Ngoc Duy’s self-sacrifice during a combat training mission was a great loss for the army.
13 years of service in the military as a fighter jet pilot, held many positions and flew aircraft including IAK-52, L-39, Su-22; He was an experienced Level 3 pilot with over 725 flight hours.
Having made many outstanding achievements in training and combat work, the Dui pilot was awarded the 3rd degree Fatherland Defense Order, the “3rd degree Glorious Soldier” medal and many other titles; he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant before his term from lieutenant to captain expires in 2021.
