In January 2023, Russian fishermen caught 365 thousand tons of fish, the press service of the Federal Agency for Fisheries reported on February 1.
In January, there was an increase in fish production of 8.1% compared to 2022. The growth was 27.2 thousand tons of fish.
Mostly, the catch was in the Far Eastern fishing basin, where about 300 thousand tons of fish were caught, an increase of 7.6%. Of the total pollock, 221.7 thousand tons were caught, this figure increased by 24.5 thousand tons. Cod caught 10.4 thousand tons and herring caught 49 thousand tons.
A 6% increase in the catch was observed in the Northern Fishing Basin, where 29.2 thousand tons of fish were caught in the first month of the year, of which cod caught 17.2 thousand tons and haddock 10.2 thousand tons.
But in the Western Fishing Basin in January, the volume of fish production increased by 74.5% compared to 2022, which amounted to 10.4 thousand tons. The main catch was sprats and herring from the Baltic.
In the Volga-Caspian fishing basin and in the Azov-Black Sea fishing basin, the catch amounted to 4 thousand tons of fish. In January this year, our fishermen caught 18.4 thousand tons of fish in foreign economic zones.
