Several British tourists were enjoying a holiday on the Costa Blanca, south-east of Spain, when they were surprised by a swimming ban at Amadores Beach due to sewage spills. According to the report, authorities in charge blame it on improper flushing of wipes in bathrooms. Mirror.
According to The City Council of El Campello, this Wednesday managed to bring the situation under control, although the beach will only open on Saturday.
The municipality says two pumps in the sewer system were completely blocked by wipes, one of which needs to be replaced. This is the second time this situation has happened in a short period of time. In March, wet rags and men’s pants clogged the entire system.
The location causing the problem is almost impossible to locate, but authorities have left a warning for the public to manage their waste conscientiously and not throw tissues down the toilet.
An uprising immediately arose among visitors to the Spanish coast, who expressed dissatisfaction with the conditions presented.
“I didn’t know there was a sewer system in Spain. I thought hotels still dumped sewage several meters into the Mediterranean from underground pipes on the beach,” one said.
British tourists wishing to holiday in Spain are facing new requirements announced in February.
As stated Mirrortravelers from the United Kingdom or the external borders of the European Union (EU) will now register with the EU entry/exit system.
The rules, expected to be implemented this year, will include a new system with scanners capable of recording each person’s name, type of travel document, biometric data, and dates of entry and exit from a destination.
In addition, travelers will also need permission to enter the European Union.
