The Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAD) this Wednesday upheld the punishment imposed by the Disciplinary Board (CD) of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) on Famalicão coach Samuel Costa for sexually harassing and discriminating against two football players.
“The Tribunal Unanimously Decides to Dismiss the Motion to Set aside the Applicant’s Conviction as Unfounded because it is Unproved, and Therefore to Uphold the Contested Decision in Part of the Applicant’s Conviction of the Double Offences Practice” refers to the TAD award , which the Lusa agency had access to.
Thus, after analyzing the appeal presented by the director of women’s football in Famalicana, TAD decided to uphold the sentence handed down last November by the CD FPF: one and a half years of suspension, for three very serious violations and a fine. 3060 euros.
According to the FPF CD, Samuel Costa, who joined Famalicao this season after working for Vitória de Guimarães (2020/21) and Valadares Gaia (2021/22), “exercised power over the players” and “permitted offensive and discriminatory violations”. based on their sexual orientation, thereby harming them in terms of sports practice.”
The case, which also involves Famalicán women’s football coach Miguel Afonso, dates back to September, when players who played for the Rio Ave women’s team in the 2020/21 season condemned sexual harassment.
Following a process initiated by CD FPF, Miguel Afonso was suspended for 35 months and director Samuel Costa for 18 months.
