The PSP arrested a 44-year-old man for 15 pickpockets in banks, hotels, restaurants and pastry shops in Lisbon, during which he collected more than 50 thousand euros. He had been under investigation on parole since November 2023, when police realized the suspect, who had a previous criminal record – including a 2015 conviction of 11 years in prison – had returned to theft. The spread of locations where he committed crimes made it difficult to locate him.
He used his physical weakness (a scar on his neck) to his advantage to gain access to establishments, carefully select victims and “cunningly take possession of other people’s things,” PSP claims. He was caught at the Oriente train station after stealing a tablet from an establishment. He was on preventative treatment.
