During his 10-day visit, Taiwanese Kuomintang Party Vice Chairman Xia Liyan will meet “old friends” in the United States, he told reporters at the airport before his departure. His words were quoted on April 4 by Taiwan’s Central News Agency.
The politician did not discuss the details of his visit to the United States, but emphasized that his trip was aimed at strengthening relations with Washington. He said the visit included meetings with many “old friends” in Washington and Kuomintang members in San Francisco, California.
Let us remember that the Kuomintang is the main opposition party in Taiwan. During the January 2024 elections in Taiwan, it won the largest number of seats in the island’s Legislative Assembly – 52 out of 113. The position of head of the island’s administration fell to a member of the Democratic Progressive Party of Taiwan, Lai Qingde. .
