European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen this Sunday congratulated Slovak President-elect Peter Pellegrini on his victory in Saturday’s elections, calling on him to “continue to promote the EU’s common values.”
Peter Pellegrini ran as a loyal candidate for the current pro-Russian government of Slovakia, led by Robert Fico.
“Congratulations, Peter, on your election as President of Slovakia. I wish you every success in your new role and look forward to working with you on the important issues that the EU and Slovakia face together. We will continue to promote our common European values. “,” Von der Leyen wrote on the social network X (formerly Twitter) in a message addressed to Pellegrini himself.
