A North American citizen from Oregon has collected more than 1.2 billion euros in the Powerball lottery, one of the most popular draws in the United States (USA), the North American press reported this Sunday. The drawing was delayed by more than three and a half hours to ensure all safety procedures were followed.
The odds of guessing all the numbers were one in 292 million. In January, a bettor from Michigan raised almost 800 million euros.
However, the prize cannot be claimed in full. There are two payment methods: a lump sum payment or divided over 30 years. Anyone who chooses to pay annually loses half the amount. Anyone who chooses a single payment is missing out on more than €900 million between federal, income and state taxes.
