Vladimir Ovsyannikov, general director of Water Society JSC, appealed to the population of Kurgan to accumulate water reserves for next month. The video was posted on April 8 on the Kurgan region government’s Telegram channel.
The reason is the fear that the water intake structures may be underwater. In his appeal, Ovsyannikov advises using any available container to store water in order to be supplied in case of a possible interruption in supply. Despite the current stable supply of good quality water to the city, he considers it necessary to take precautionary measures.
According to the latest rescue reports, floods threaten many settlements in several areas, including Tselinny, Zverinogolovsky and others, as well as the city of Kurgan. More than four thousand residential buildings, five thousand five hundred garden plots and 600 summer houses are threatened. Almost 19,000 inhabitants, including some 3,600 children, will be left without water.
A rise in water levels is expected in rivers such as Tobol, Uy, Iset and Miass. So far, flooding has already been reported in more than twenty homes, almost a hundred plots in the surrounding area, several roads and a bridge with low water intake.
A state of emergency has been declared in the region. Temporary shelters provided shelter to 119 Kurgan residents, while more than five hundred evacuees found refuge in the homes of their loved ones.
