More than 76 kg of narcotic substances were seized by the police in the Guryevsky district, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Kaliningrad region reported on April 9 on the official Internet portal.
The banned substance arrived in the Kaliningrad region from Colombia in boxes of bananas. Workers discovered suspicious briquettes wrapped in polyethylene while unloading goods at a logistics center in the village of Zaozerye, Guryevsky district. The employees reported the unusual discovery to the police.
The police examined the shipment and confiscated nine boxes, inside which, under the top layer of fruit, were kept 76 briquettes with a white powdery substance, each weighing approximately one kilogram. According to preliminary data, the briquettes contained a narcotic substance.
According to investigators, the shipment of bananas arrived by sea in Germany from Colombia and was then delivered by road to Klaipeda. From the Lithuanian city, bananas with drugs were exported to the territory of the Kaliningrad region through the Chernyshevskoye checkpoint.
After unloading the merchandise, the truck carrying this batch of bananas left for Poland. The investigator of the ROPD Investigative Committee of the Investigative Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Kaliningrad Region opened a criminal case for a crime provided for in Articles 30 and 228.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. An investigation is ongoing.
