The planned volumes for the export of Kuzbass coal to the east for the first quarter of 2024 were fully met, 14.8 million tons were exported, however, in the region there are about 200 “abandoned” coal trains said the region’s Coal Industry Minister Oleg Tokarev on April 9 on his Telegram channel.
According to the minister: “Problems related to the export of coal products in the region persist. The infrastructure of Russian railways and the stations of coal companies in Kuzbass are packed with loaded trains, the number of trains turned away from traffic (“abandoned”) in all directions only on the West Siberian Railway (West Siberian Railway – TASS) is about two hundred and there is a chronic shortage of locomotives at some stations.”
Tokarev also said that at a meeting with the management of Russian Railways the results of work for the first quarter of 2024 were summarized, where it was noted that “The entire planned volume of Kuzbass, 14.8 million tons. [угля]was withdrawn in its entirety by JSC Russian Railways.”
Recall that in December 2023 an agreement was concluded between the Kuzbass government and Russian Railways, which in 2024 provided for the shipment and export of export coal from the region to the east by rail in the amount of 54.1 million tons.
