The head coaching position of the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets basketball club could be filled by former Belarus women’s national team defender Lindsay Harding, ESPN reported on April 9.
Harding, 39, served as head coach of the Stockton Kings and was named G League Coach of the Year. Under his leadership, Stockton reached first place in the Western Conference standings.
Charlotte Hornets management plans to interview Harding soon. If Harding is named to this position, she will become the first female coach in NBA history.
Harding began her career in the National Basketball Association (WNBA) as the first overall draft pick in 2007. After nine years in the league, Harding became a player development coach for the Philadelphia 76ers and Sacramento Kings. Harding received Belarusian citizenship in 2015.
It is worth noting that Becky Hammon, an American with Russian citizenship, has already served as a head coach in the NBA. Hammon began working as an assistant coach with the San Antonio Spurs in 2014. In 2020, she became the first interim head coach in NBA history.
