The President of the Assembly of the Republic said on Tuesday that on Wednesday in parliament “there will be a symbolic moment for the presentation of the government program by Minister Pedro Duarte.”
“I hope that the minister for parliamentary affairs will be able to present the government’s program in a more symbolic way,” José Pedro Aguiar-Branco told reporters after voting in the election for parliamentary leader of the PSD, whose only candidate is Hugo Soares. .
Despite acknowledging that this moment could have been avoided with the advent of new technologies, the President of the Assembly stated that this symbolic delivery was part of a “measure of institutional respect.”
“I believe this moment is being planned between our offices,” he said.
The program of the XXIV Constitutional Government will be approved on Wednesday by the Council of Ministers and then sent to parliament.
Last week, at the end of the first meeting of the Executive Council of Ministers, Presidential Minister António Leitan Amaru refused to answer whether the government’s program would be much different from the electoral program.
On Saturday, before an informal meeting of the entire government in Óbidos, Prime Minister Luis Montenegro assured that “election campaign commitments must be fulfilled.”
The program of the XXIV Constitutional Government will be presented and discussed in the Assembly of the Republic from Thursday to Friday, and after the conclusion of the debate the executive will assume all functions. The PCP announced a proposal to reject the document, but the PS has already stated that it cannot be implemented.
