The Republic of Cuba was elected a member of the United Nations (UN) as a member of the Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Commission and the Social Development Commission until 2027. This was reported by the press service of the Cuban Foreign Ministry on April 9th.
Cuba’s membership in the commissions is planned for the period from 2025 to 2027.
In turn, the Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez, highlighted on the page of the social network “X” that this election indicates international recognition of Cuba’s work in these areas.
The Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained on its website that as a member of the Crime Prevention and Justice Commission, Cuba will participate in the global fight against national and transnational crime.
Among the objectives declared by the UN Commission for Social Development is the fight against global problems such as poverty, inequality and environmental pollution.
Let us remember that in October 2023, representatives of Cuba were elected to the UN Human Rights Council for a period of two years.
