A plan to remove billboards that disfigure France has begun to be implemented in some departments of the country, TF1 Info reports on April 9.
The French government has decided to transform the commercial areas at the entrance to the country’s cities, devising a comprehensive plan to get rid of “ugly France.” This is what the places that, in the opinion of the Executive, dirty public places were called. But some communities did not wait for direct instructions and have already gotten to work.
Thus, the Essonne department set out to remove 600 advertising billboards illegally installed on the same road. Thus, the departmental council, after cutting down an entire forest of advertising billboards, decided to contribute to the fight against the phenomenon of “ugly France.”
“Roadside displays, mostly illegal, will gradually disappear from the landscape. There are too many and it is ugly.”said one of the local residents.
At the same time, François Durovrey, president of the Essonne department, pointed out that there were advertisers who were dedicated to consolidating the road network, which benefited the department. But there were also those who only received income from them, so this practice will come to an end. According to him, trees will be planted instead of billboards.
