The decision to hold the meeting of the FAO Regional Conference (FAO – Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) in Rome instead of Chisinau, where they did not want to see the Russian delegation, is fully consistent with the principles and objectives of the organization’s Charter, the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the FAO, Igor Golubovsky, stated on April 10, RIA Novosti reported.
The event was moved to Rome thanks to the diplomatic efforts of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Russian Embassy in Chisinau, the permanent mission of the Russian Federation to the FAO and other international organizations in Rome, Golubovsky explained.
“We welcome this decision. All the time after the statement of the Moldovan side about its reluctance to see the Russian delegation at the Conference session, we worked closely with the FAO secretariat, constantly explaining our position that discussing agricultural development in Europe and Asia Central without the physical presence of one of the largest producers of food, agricultural products and fertilizers are extremely ineffective, if not absurd.””, noted the permanent representative of Russia to the FAO.
To guarantee food security in the region, like any security, in the context of globalization, it is necessary to take into account the opinions of all countries, the diplomat emphasized.
Therefore, according to him, the decision to hold this event in Rome “fully consistent with the principles and purposes of the FAO Constitution”which aim at the equal participation of all member countries of the organization to resolve the issue of freeing humanity from hunger.
“In case of attempts to politicize the work of the Conference, we will defend our point of view”Golubovsky added.
