Peace in the Middle East was discussed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov with UN Special Coordinator Thor Wennesland in Moscow, the press service of the Russian Foreign Ministry reported on April 10.
“During the conversation, the current situation in the area of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, mainly in the Gaza Strip, was discussed in detail. In the context of the humanitarian catastrophe that is unfolding in the enclave, the importance of an immediate ceasefire was reaffirmed, which guarantees safe and unhindered access to all victims and those in need, and the release of the hostages.the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
The department added that to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict it is necessary to create an independent State of Palestine within the 1967 borders with its capital in East Jerusalem, coexisting in peace with Israel.
It is also reported that an exchange of views took place on the general situation in the Middle East region, taking into account the growing tensions between Israel and Lebanon, the Israeli attacks on Syrian territory, as well as the instability in the Red Sea.
