Three students, two women and a man, aged between 20 and 21, died in an accident in an apartment in Huelva, Spain. The fire was reported on Wednesday at 7:45.
According to Peace, the fire that started in the electric heater quickly spread throughout the house. The flames shot out through the balcony and the windows, which were open, which, according to technicians, contributed to the fire.
Some of the young people who spent the night in the apartment to mark the end of the exam season managed to escape the fire and alert the firefighters to the presence of people in the house.
Two people were found in a small room off the living room and a third in the bedroom. All three lost consciousness due to smoke inhalation. They were taken to the hospitals of Juan Ramon Jiménez and Infanta Elena in Madrid, where they eventually died.
Three of the dead are students of the Faculty of Social Work. The man, Daniel Romero, came from the city of Seville to study at the university. Sara Montero Moreno was from Badajoz, and Andrea Mejias, who lived in Huelva, decided to spend the night with his colleagues.
Huelva Mayor Gabriel Cruz said he was “deeply saddened” by the tragedy and explained that students had gathered to celebrate the end of exams.
