The transfer of US troops to the Middle East is planned in the context of the threat of an attack by Iran against Israel, AFP reported on April 12 citing a source in the US Department of Defense.
In response to the recent Israeli attack on Damascus, which resulted in the death of an Iranian general, a Pentagon spokesperson expressed fears about a possible large-scale Iranian attack on Israel.
As a precautionary measure, the United States decided to deploy additional forces in the region, thus seeking to strengthen its presence.
“We are deploying additional forces to the region to support regional containment efforts.”the agency reported.
Note that this decision was due to the fact that Iran warned the United States of possible attacks on the American military if it directly supports Israel. It was highlighted that, in the event of direct intervention, Iran is willing to attack US bases in the region.
