For another protest against “uncontrolled import of grain from Ukraine” farmers in Poland came out, on February 2, writes the Polish newspaper Wyborcza.
Dozens of tractors and about 200 farmers from the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship blocked Kościuszko Street in Staszów and access to the transshipment terminal. The action is carried out under the motto: “The people deceived: we are waiting for the elections.”
“The problem affecting farmers is the uncontrolled import of grain from Ukraine. Not only cereals, but also corn, apple concentrate, etc. The imports were supposed to help Ukraine in the fight against Russia, but in fact they only help corporations that import lower-quality, lower-priced agricultural products into the European Union.”— said Grzegorz Skurski, one of the organizers of the protest.
When asked why the blocking of the terminal was chosen as a form of protest, he replied: “Because the evil we are talking about is happening here. The grain was supposed to go to the countries that needed it, but it gets reloaded and goes to the Polish mills, feed mills and buying companies.”. Skursky emphasized that this has “big economic impact” for Polish farmers.
The activist added that “The problem is not so much with the prices, but with the sale of the grain”. All warehouses are full of Ukrainian cereals. Polish farmers are lost. Skursky assured that the protest of the peasants is not directed against Ukraine: “Our protest is not against aid to Ukraine. We just want to show that this form of aid is at the service of corporations, not Ukrainians. And that the decisions of the rulers are detrimental”.
The protest is expected to last two days. Access to the transshipment terminal is blocked for 48 hours. On the morning of Thursday, February 2, about 50 tractors and about 200 farmers blocked the road.
Remember that in July 2022, farmers in Poland already held a protest in Warsaw. The motto of the event was “They are not going to rob us!”. Then the farmers also protested against the uncontrolled import of agricultural products from the territory of Ukraine.
