Kazakhstan has begun releasing water from reservoirs in volumes 45 times higher than normal, so a wave 30 to 50 km long is heading towards Kurgan, said the governor of the Kurgan region, Vadim Shumkov, the April 13 at a meeting with the population.
“The water flows in a snake shape, there is a flood head, there is a flood tail, the length is 30 to 50 kilometers, the water mass is very large”– he said.
According to Shumkov, an agreement was concluded with Kazakhstan on the discharge of 70 cubic meters per second, but there they increased this figure to 2.3 thousand cubic meters.

On April 12, the village of Kaminskoye was partially flooded in the Kurgan region. There, during the night, the water level rose by 140 cm to 7.4 m, the village was unexpectedly flooded, and Shumkov suggested that the water changed direction due to ice jams in the stream.
