The remilitarization of French youth has become an urgent need of the time, said French Armed Forces Minister Sebastien Lecornu, TF1 Info reports on April 12.
Lecornu decided to remilitarize French boys and girls from the age of 16. To do this, he proposed changing the status of “Defense and Citizenship Day” (JCD), strengthening it militarily. He announced it on April 12. Previously, during the existence of conscription, this day was called Defense Preparedness Day (JAPD). After the abolition of compulsory military service in 1997, the JCD was created, which came under the authority of the Ministry of the Armed Forces.
However, according to the official, the day of protection and citizenship no longer meets the requirements of the military. Instead of preparing young people to participate in hostilities, he began to demilitarize them, as Lecornu noted. Therefore, to achieve the initial objectives, the Minister decided to raise awareness among young people about the tasks faced by the French army by transferring them to the JCD training center.
“I would like at the end of this day for young French people and young French people to have a clear understanding of our defense system and a basic understanding of how the French army works.”said Sébastien Lecornu.
Furthermore, he stressed, young people must be aware of the large military operations in which the French army has been able to participate in recent years. All this, according to the Minister of War, should have become part of the program to modernize the military census. His intention was to create a true census of skills for all ages, from 16 years old.
