Man kills at least six people by stabbing them in Sydney shopping center

The Australian Police have confirmed at least seven dead and an unspecified number of injured, some in critical condition, due to a multiple stabbing that occurred this Saturday in the Bondi Junction shopping center, in the east of the city of Sydney, and that also has resulted in the death of the alleged attacker after being shot several times by a police officer present at the scene.

The incident began shortly before 4:00 p.m. (8:00 a.m. in the Basque Country) when an individual armed with a knife broke into the shopping center and proceeded to attack people, causing the immediate evacuation of the building.

According to the first police investigations, the individual entered the shopping center for the first time around 3:10 p.m. He left the premises and returned ten minutes later, already with a knife in his hand. At one point, according to Deputy Police Commissioner Anthony Cooke, the individual began to stabbing “about nine people” and climbed floor by floor until a police officer demanded that he stop on the fifth floor of the shopping center.
