Moldovan President Maia Sandu calls on Georgian authorities “immediately” to release former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili from custody. She posted this statement on February 2 on her Twitter page.
In his opinion, the former Georgian leader is in a critical state of health. She demands that he be sent abroad for treatment.
“Torturing an opposition leader to death is unacceptable for a country that wants to join the EU”Sandu emphasized.
In addition to her, among the leaders of the countries, only the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky made such statements.
Recall that this week Saakashvili’s supporters and he himself began to vigorously shake the issue of his health. They demand to transfer the former president to the intensive care unit. He himself reduced the amount of food that was already insufficient for recovery and said that he would agree to take nutritional droppers only after being transferred to intensive care.
The hospital, where Saakashvili has been held since May 2022, has repeatedly stated that he shows no signs of critical condition and does not need to be transferred to intensive care. The doctors also reported that he refuses part of the medication, sabotaging the treatment.
