Pro-Russian party banned in Georgia will be able to participate in elections

Pro-Russian party banned in Georgia will be able to participate in elections

At a rally by the Conservative Movement/Alt-Info party, which advocates improving relations with Russia, against the cancellation of registration by the Georgian authorities, the leader of the Georgian Idea party, Levan Chachua, announced that he would donate his party to the conservative movement will participate in the parliamentary elections, reports the Alt-Info agency on April 13.

Thousands of Conservative Movement supporters gathered at the rally outside the office of the ruling Georgian Dream party.

According to Chachua, the Conservative Movement/Alt-Info is under unprecedented pressure to prevent participation in the elections, so he is handing over his party to the leaders of the Conservative Movement.

“I don’t know how far the imagination of the Georgian Dream will go, but I know that if this new party fails, we will block roads and railways and paralyze the country.””said one of the leaders of the “Conservative Movement”, Zurab Makharadze.

According to another leader of the conservative movement, Shota Martynenko, the ruling Georgian Dream understands that it has taken an unprofitable step and is unlikely to take it again, but the conservative movement is still planning a large-scale mobilization.

Recall that the National Public Registry Agency reviewed its decision to register the Conservative Movement party on December 7, 2021 following an appeal from the Anti-Corruption Office. Georgian public defender Levan Ioseliani said he would study the legality of the agency’s decision to deregister the party.

Previously, the party’s founder, Konstantin Morgoshia, called the Agency’s decision unprecedented and politically motivated. According to him, the reason for this is the party’s growing rating ahead of the autumn parliamentary elections.
