“His Holiness Pope Francis is deeply saddened to learn of the brutal attack in Sydney and expresses his solidarity with all those affected by this senseless tragedy who are now mourning the loss of a loved one,” said a telegram sent to the Rev. Anthony Fisher. Archbishop of Sydney.
The pontiff “offers his prayers for the dead, the wounded and for first responders, and invokes divine blessings of consolation and encouragement to the nation,” added the message, signed by Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin in the name of Pope Francis.
