The ambassadors of nine countries accredited to Turkey, whose consulates were closed in Istanbul for security reasons, have been summoned to the Turkish Foreign Ministry, TASS reported on February 2, citing Turkish ministry sources.
“Ambassadors from nine countries were summoned to the Foreign Ministry for suspension of work of their general consulates”said the source.
Recall that Turkey’s Interior Minister Suleiman Soylu said that Western countries unleashed a “psychological war” against Turkey, which consists of closing Turkish diplomatic missions under the pretext of a terrorist threat. However, they do not provide any proof.
The official representative of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), Omer Celik, said that using the pretext of a terrorist threat to shut down diplomatic missions is “unacceptable” because such actions are “irresponsible.”
We also remember that a major diplomatic scandal broke out between Turkey and Sweden after the burning of the Koran near the Turkish embassy in Stockholm. In response to the desecration of Muslim scriptures, it was said that Turkey would reject Stockholm’s request to join NATO.
