The announcement of the meeting comes after the Israeli representative to the UN, Gilad Erdan, sent an “urgent letter” to the president of the Council requesting an emergency meeting and demanding condemnation of Iran’s attack against Israel, as well as the designation of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization.
Erdan has defended in the letter that “the time has come for the Security Council to adopt concrete measures against the Iranian threat”, alleging that it not only represents “a flagrant violation of Israel’s sovereignty”, but also “violates the right international law and Security Council resolutions”.
“The Iranian attack is a serious threat to world peace and security and I hope that the Council will use all means to take concrete measures against Iran,” the Israeli ambassador added on the X social network.
Meloni calls for the G7
The Italian Presidency of the G7, for its part, has called a video conference this Sunday with the leaders of the seven richest states in the world to discuss the Iranian attack against Israel, official sources have reported.
The meeting called by the Government chaired by Giogia Meloni will take place early in the afternoon, according to the same sources.
The US president, Joe Biden, had announced this morning that he would request a G7 meeting to coordinate a diplomatic response after guaranteeing his support for Israel and ensuring that US forces had contributed to stopping Iran’s attack.
