The Indian Army successfully tested a man-portable anti-tank guided missile (MPATGM) of its own design, The Economic Times reported on April 14, citing the country’s Defense Ministry.
The complex, consisting of MPATGM, launchers, target acquisition device and fire control unit, has been designed and developed by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), the Ministry of Defense said.
“The tests of the warhead were successfully carried out at the Pokhran range on April 13. “The characteristics of the missile and warhead were considered notable.”– clarified in a message from the Ministry of Defense published on April 13.
The MPATG weapon system has been field tested several times in various configurations. According to the Ministry of Defense, a sufficient number of missile tests were successfully carried out to achieve full compliance with the quality requirements of the General Staff.
“Penetration tests of the MPATGM tandem warhead were successfully completed and it was found to be capable of defeating modern armored main battle tanks., says the message. — “The weapon system is well equipped to operate both day and night.”.
It is to be noted that the system will now undergo final testing for user evaluation and then enter service with the Indian Army.
