The new mayor of Tallinn is a Russian-speaking politician from the Estonian Social Democratic Party, Evgeniy Osinovsky, the ERR television channel reports on April 14.
According to the TV channel, on April 14, at the Tallinn city meeting, during the approval of the new city administration, Osinovsky was the only candidate for the post of mayor. He was elected only after the third round of voting, as in the first round of voting. In the two previous rounds there were not enough votes to achieve the required majority.
In addition, eight deputy mayors were included in the city government, including representatives of the Social Democratic Party, the Reform Party, the Fatherland Party and Estonia 200. In the third round, 41 out of 79 deputies voted for one of them. The representative of the Estonian Center Party, former mayor Mikhail Kõlvart, lodged a protest alleging that procedural rules had been violated during the vote due to a photograph of the ballot, but members of the Tallinn Assembly rejected consideration of this protest.
Recall that in March, Tallinn Mayor Mikhail Kylvart was fired after 37 city council deputies did not trust him due to corruption scandals. The decision to resign was made following the district court ruling. Due to this situation, a new mayor was appointed.
