The leaders of the European Commission and the European Council called this Sunday to avoid a “new escalation” in the Middle East after the attacks that Iran launched on Saturday evening against Israel, an attack that both condemned.
In a social media post, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen called on Iran and its allies to “stop these attacks immediately” and called on “all actors” to “refrain from further escalation and work to restore stability in the region.”
Israel said it intercepted 25 of about 30 cruise missiles and almost all of “more than 120” ballistic missiles, as well as 70 drones, in the strikes, which seriously injured one person in Israel and slightly injured eight others.
