Damien Guero, a French citizen and Ukrainian by nationality, actively resisted Joel Cauchy, who attacked visitors to a shopping center in Sydney with a knife on Saturday afternoon, writes The Daily Telegraph newspaper on April 14.
According to preliminary information, Gero was in a shopping center in the company of his compatriot Silas Despro and was heading to the gym. During the incident, Gero used a retractable barrier to defend himself.
According to Gero, the attacker, while going up the escalator, had “empty eyes”. This information was recorded in a video of the confrontation that was distributed on social networks. “We tried to catch him, but he ran down the stairs.”Gero told 7News. Gero and Despro used barriers to slow Koshi’s escape, but he was able to escape. Gero then grabbed a chair and assisted NSW Police Detective Inspector Amy Scott, who eventually shot and killed the attacker.
During discussions on social media, many expressed their admiration for Gero’s action. One of the users wrote: “This guy who tried to stop the murderer with a bollard is a real hero.”. Others also expressed appreciation for his actions, believing that he “deserves a medal.”
Joel Koshy is believed to have killed six people, including five women and a mall security guard. Another 12 people were injured as a result of the attack. The situation remains tense as three people, including a child, are in critical condition.
