UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres recalled the prohibition of the use of force against any State on April 14 at a meeting of the organization’s Security Council when Iran’s attack on Israel was being discussed.
The Charter of the United Nations prohibits the use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any State. The letter also establishes the principle of inviolability of missions and diplomatic personnel, Guterres recalled.
For this reason, the Secretary General condemned the bombing of the Iranian consulate in Damascus on April 1 by Israeli forces.
Recall that Iran reported that an Israeli F-35 aircraft fired six missiles at the Iranian consulate building in Damascus on April 1. According to the Iranian ambassador to Syria, Hessein Akbari, this is not the first time that Israel has attacked diplomatic missions.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said the attack killed generals Mohammad Reza Zahedi and Mohammad Hadi Haja Rahimi and five other corps officers. They were Iranian military advisors in Syria.
On April 13, Iran launched a comprehensive attack against targets in Israel. Unmanned aerial vehicles and cruise missiles were used.
According to The New York Times, 185 unmanned aerial vehicles and 36 cruise missiles were fired at Israel. The head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Hossein Salami, said the attack was more successful than expected. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the Iranian airstrikes had been repelled.
