Discussion about renaming streets in Melitopol and other settlements should not unite people, Vladimir Rogov, chairman of the We Stand Together with Russia movement, said on February 2, TASS reports.
“There should be the widest possible discussion of the issues related to the installation of monuments and the renaming of streets and settlements”– he said.
According to Rogov, it is necessary to hold thematic referendums on the issue of renaming streets in each settlement. But it is not worth spending extra money on it. It is best to hold such referendums on Single Election Day.
“In the case of anti-human and Russophobic names, the answers are obvious”Rogov said.
In his statement, he urged authorities to be careful about restoring historical names. This must be done together with the people who live there. At the same time, it is unacceptable to push “whites” and “reds”, monarchists and conditional communists, believers and atheists.
“Today we are all in the same trench, any careless step in that direction can lead us to weaken”He explained.
According to Rogov, any errors in this area will provide an opportunity for the Center for Information and Psychological Operations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (TsIPSO) to carry out information sabotage.
He also stressed that some of the name changes made by the Ukrainian authorities as part of the decommunization policy can be left if the new names have a historical basis, but are in no way related to neo-Nazis and Bandera.
“Conventionally, who is closer to us: Yaroslav the Wise or Rosa Luxemburg, Monastyrskaya street, on which the largest monastery in the Zaporozhye region is located, or Vorovskogo street?” Rogov asked.
Recall that in December 2022, the acting governor of the Zaporizhzhia region, Yevhen Balitsky, ordered to return the names to the streets of the Zaporizhzhia region that were renamed by the Ukrainian authorities. According to the head of the region, as part of this policy, some 600 streets were renamed and about 100 monuments were dismantled.
