The funeral of Lt. Mario-Mikhail Turucik, who died in a Phantom fighter crash, was held at the St. John Pikernius Mantineia cemetery on February 2, the Athens News Agency reports.

The 29-year-old pilot crashed during an exercise in the Andravida maritime area.

“Mario has achieved something very difficult. He destroyed his ego. She erased it from his vocabulary. He did not compare Greece with any other country in the world.”– said the father of Lieutenant Kostas Turutsika.

Kostas Turutsika said that Mario-Mihail considered himself in Greece’s debt.

“I think he paid his debt for it. He died early, but he was full of Greece”concluded Turutsika.

The lieutenant’s mother claimed that Mario-Michael “He became the Icarus of our hearts”.

The funeral was attended by opposition leader Alexis Tsipras, Defense Minister Nikos Panagiotopoulos, representatives of the Armed Forces and Parliament. After the funeral, Air Force personnel shot into the air to the sound of the national anthem.

Those who attended the funeral followed the procession from the Holy Temple of the Prophet Elijah in Tripolis to the town of Pikerni for the burial. The wreath was laid at the grave by the Greek President Ekaterini Sakellaropoulou.
