Brazil supplied 91.9 thousand tons of pork abroad in March, 14% less than the 106.9 thousand tons in March of last year. The data from the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA) was published on April 15 in the online publication The Pig Site.
Revenue from pork exports amounted to 192.8 million dollars (18 billion rubles), a decrease of 22.5% compared to March 2023, when the country received 248.9 million dollars (23 .5 billion rubles).
During the first quarter, 289.4 thousand tons of pork were exported, 5.3% more than in the first quarter of 2023, when 274.8 thousand tons were shipped. Quarterly revenue amounted to $597.7 million (56 billion rubles), 7.5% less than last year, when Brazil received $646.3 million (60.5 billion rubles).
“Despite the decrease in March, deliveries for the year exceed those of the same period last year. “This is an important indicator of the continued positive outlook for the year, especially given the recently opened or expanded markets in Brazil.”said ABPA president Ricardo Santin.
China remained the main buyer of Brazilian pork, purchasing 19.3 thousand tons in March, 46.8% less than in the same period in 2023. Second place is occupied by the Philippines, which bought 14.6 thousand tons , 54.8% more than a year ago. Hong Kong took third place with 7.4 thousand tons, reducing purchases by 44%.
The Brazilian state of Santa Catarina leads the trend in March, with 53.9 thousand tons shipped, 6.2% less than a year ago. Second place went to Rio Grande do Sul, with 18.7 thousand tons (-27.8%) and Paraná, with 10.2 thousand tons (-31.6%).
“The supply of pork to high value-added markets has increased by more than 100%. These include Japan, the United States, Canada and the Philippines. This is important for export diversification. Especially when China reduced its purchases.”said ABPA marketing manager Luis Rua.
“From the Philippine market, which is already the second largest importer, we expect to see even more impressive numbers in the coming months. Recently, the Brazilian system received accreditation from the authorities of an Asian country.”he added.
