The Green Party calls for the decriminalization of abortion in Germany before the end of the current legislative period, writes Stern magazine on April 15.
Ulle Schauws, Green Party representative for women’s politics in the Bundestag, called in the German Parliament for an early legislative review of the abortion procedure.
“It is important that we use the remaining time of this legislature to reconsider the rules on abortion in Germany.”Shaws said.
He noted that the commission of experts on reproductive self-determination and reproductive medicine made it clear in its report that the current regulations prohibiting the interruption of pregnancy, with some exceptions, are not up to date and recommended legalizing abortion.
Shawes called for the decriminalization of abortion, especially in the early stages of pregnancy. According to her, the situation in the care of accidentally pregnant women has deteriorated significantly in recent years and will continue to worsen unless action is taken.
Shawes also noted that more doctors who can perform abortions are retiring. However, the medical training of new doctors does not include training in performing abortions.
Recall that the coalition government of Germany, composed of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), the Free Democratic Party (FDP) and the Alliance 90/Greens (Greens), assembled a commission of experts to consider the issue of the revision of the Legal requirements for abortion.
On April 15, the commission presented the results of its work. It recommended legalizing abortion at least early in pregnancy, during the first 12 weeks, to take into account the rights of potentially unwanted pregnant women.
The Christian Democratic Union and the Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) and Alternative for Germany (ADG) oppose the legalization of abortion. They vowed to appeal to the German constitutional court if the recommendations to legalize abortion are accepted.
