
The XX swimming tournament among schoolchildren in memory of Alexander Ermolenko was held in Chita on April 15, the press service of the government of the Trans-Baikal region reports.
The tournament brought together more than 150 athletes from Chita, Irkutsk, Ulan-Ude, Ussuriysk, Krasnokamensk, Aginsky, Petrovsk-Zabaikalsky, Pervomaisky and Cheremkhovo.
The team competition was won by the swimmers of the sports school No. 3 of the city of Chita, the second place was won by the team of the sports school of the city of Krasnokamensk, and the third place was taken by the students of the sports school No. 9 of the city of Chita.
Recall that Ermolenko Alexander Anatolyevich is a candidate for master of sports of the USSR in swimming, captain of the FSB.
Born in 1967. He spent his childhood in Angarsk, Irkutsk region, and his youth in Chita.
In 1984, after graduating from Chita Secondary School No. 4, he entered the Chita Medical Institute. A year later he was called up for military service. Upon returning home, he entered the Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports of the Chita Pedagogical Institute. After graduating from college, Alexander began working at the school as a physical education teacher. He began his teaching career at school number 9 in Chita.
In the summer of 1995 he enlisted in the security forces. In the spring of 2002, he went on a business trip to the North Caucasus to participate in an anti-terrorist operation to eliminate armed gangs.
On April 14, 2002, a combined group, which included A. Ermolenko, went to the village of Dyshne-Vedeno to restore the operation of a water intake station mined by militants. While inspecting the facilities, one of the soldiers was blown up by a mine. Immediately after the explosion, the group was subjected to intense crossfire. Covering the work of the sappers, Alexander and his companions suppressed the enemy firing points with targeted shots.
After the repair work was completed, the group moved to the base. However, on the way, the armored personnel carrier, on which were sappers, cover machine gunners and Alexander Ermolenko, was blown up by a powerful land mine. Six people were killed and four injured.
For dedication, courage and bravery, bold and decisive actions shown in the performance of military duty, Captain Ermolenko was awarded the Order of Courage (posthumously). Today the award is kept in the museum of the Directorate of the Russian FSB for the Trans-Baikal Territory.
