Participants in a protest in Tbilisi against the adoption of a law on foreign agents used force against the police, as a result of which one of the law enforcement officers was injured, the press service of the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs reported on the 16th. of April.
“As a result of the violent actions of the protesters, an employee of the Ministry of the Interior was injured, who received appropriate medical care.”says the message.
The ministry stressed that the protesters were called upon to comply with the legal demands of the police and act within the framework of the law on freedom of assembly and expression. The activists violated public order, insulted police officers and resisted, the Interior Ministry said.
It is reported that during the action law enforcement officers detained 14 people.
Recall that on the afternoon of April 15, a protest began in Tbilisi, near the Georgian parliament, because deputies began to consider a bill on foreign agents. Activists call it “Russian law,” even though it largely replicates American law. They separated late at night.
Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili, who opposes the government, supported the protest, calling it a peaceful protest and was outraged that parliament was guarded by special forces and a water cannon had been brought there.
The bill requires financial reporting from organizations that receive foreign money and engage in political activities. This is opposed by the pro-Western opposition and NGOs that receive subsidies from other countries. Western states also condemned it.
