The fire has engulfed its spire which collapsed on the roof of the current headquarters of the Chamber of Commerce. At the moment, the causes are unknown.
The historic building of the Copenhagen Stock Exchange, in the capital of Denmark, has been plunged this Tuesday into a fire which has affected the roof and has already caused the collapse of its iconic spire, with no information on victims at the moment.
The Copenhagen Fire Department has confirmed on its account on the social network building.
“We are in the process of deployment,” the Danish emergency services have indicated in statements to the newspaper Jyllands-Posten, before stating that the main works will be those of “rescue and extinction.” The authorities have closed the entire area around the Stock Exchange, where dozens of Police officers have also gone.
The historic spire of the Stock Exchange, in the shape of the intertwined tails of four dragons, collapsed around 8:30 a.m. due to the flames that engulfed the building, located in Slotsholmen and which was undergoing a restoration process.
The Minister of Culture of Denmark, Jakob Engel-Schmidt, has lamented in a message on his X account that “400 years of Danish heritage are on fire” and has applauded the emergency services and citizens who are “collaborating” to “save artistic treasures and iconic images from the burning building.”
The building, known in Danish as Borsen and whose construction was completed in 1640, is located near Christianborg Palace, where Parliament is located, and is one of the country’s main tourist attractions. At the moment the causes of the fire are unknown.
